Polish Translator

Polish Translator Immediately after graduating from the Chinese Department of the University of Warsaw in 2002, I found myself in China as a QA manager dealing with faucet components made of: brass, zamac, plastic, etc.

Two years later, I became a freelance translator and interpreter in China and thus learned about various lines of industry, including: welding equipment, furniture (including hardware), textiles, dairy products, biogas engines or production lines for various products.

I returned to Poland in 2008. I am a freelance translator now, while also providing factories and trading companies with support in their dealings with the Chinese B2B market. This extra work enables me to understand the needs of engineers and managers much better than I otherwise would.

Learning from experience, I am also continuing my formal education.

I have supplemented my MA in Chinese from the University of Warsaw with an MA in English from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and I have received a Postgraduate Diploma in Specialized Translation, also from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

In my spare time, I translate poetry, fiction and other humanities.

I am a literary translator, too.

Traditional engineering

technology translationThe first time I saw the puzzle of linked rings, it was a partially rusted array of jingling iron loops made by my grandfather, who was a blacksmith. I was proud of my grandfather’s ingenuity. But later, I learned that this toy was of Chinese origin. The history of science and engineering may never stop surprising us.

I recommend Joseph Needham’s: Science and Civilisation in China.

Traditional resources

translating knowledgeEncyklopedia Techniki (Encyclopedia of Technology) is a comprehensive and multivolume resource portraying various aspects of technology, including such areas as mechanical engineering, chemistry, electronics, material science, and more.

It is a superb source of technical knowledge, and a rich mine of engineering terms and expressions.

Modern engineering

translating objectivesCommunication is the key to any successful endeavor.

Translators must keep up with the technology that surrounds them, for only then will they be able to convey massages effectively and efficiently.

It is one of the reasons a translator cannot go without lifelong education.

Modern resources

online referenceThe Internet is a vast repository of top knowledge and useful insight as well as a quagmire of empty talk and hot air.

Finding one’s way through the maze and staying out of danger is a crucial skill any translator must learn.
